The original Christmas Loft was founded in 1980 in Jay, VT, by Ronnie and Richard Vander Veer. They had a loft in the country store they had opened in the mid-1970s, and Ronnie decorated it for the holiday season. It grew from there.
Opened in 1984, the North Conway Christmas Loft was the Vander Veers’ ultimate vision of what they wanted their store to be. At the time they retired, their son Greg was living in New York City and was an award-winning documentary filmmaker. He and his partner, now husband, Stephen O’Farrell, didn’t want to see this special business come to an end, so together they moved to North Conway to own and operate both the flagship store in North Conway and a smaller shop in North Woodstock, NH.
The North Conway store is a magical family attraction where you can discover the best in holiday décor in an atmosphere that’s inviting and fun. Here, in room after room, your favorite collectibles come to life in beautifully-lit vignettes that evoke memories of happy holiday times and capture the magic of years gone by.

In August of 2019 Greg and Stephen opened Tricks and Treats, a Halloween-themed store and ice cream shop next door to The Christmas Loft.
You can take a stroll through the catacombs into their spooky Halloween crypt full of their favorite décor, terrifying animatronics, costumes, masks, and everything creepy.
